Sigh...

It never fails.

The only times my mother ever locks the keys in our car is on Wednesdays.

Some of you can guess where this is going.

Wednesday is the most busy day of the week in the L household, especially now that we have Bible Bowl practice.  School in the morning, pick up the boys at 2:10, leave with me for piano lesson at 2:40, Mom get food for dinner while I am there, pick me up, come home, leave at 4:30 for church, eat dinner, go to BB practice, AWANA.

Now, this is what happened and will happen today:

School in the morning, pick up the boys at 2:10, leave with me for piano lesson at 2:40, Mom get food for dinner while I am there, lock keys in car, Mom calls Dad, Mom calls me, I call Dad and tell him where to get my stuff for AWANA, hang up, realize that I forgot to tell him to get m BB study papers but he has already left, Dad picks up Mom, Dad picks up me, I eat frantically in the car, BB practice, AWANA.

So here I am, my mom walking in the door at 4:49, and we are leaving for BB practice.

New!

I have added a new "Quote of the Day" thing at the bottom of this page, so be sure to check it out! If you have any quotes that you like, just comment on the latest post and I will make it the next one.

The Things I Notice

You know, I haven't written in a while because I think there is nothing to write about. But as I just look around me, I see that that is nowhere near true!

So, I tried to notice things the last few days.

Last week, I created a "school corner" by our computer chest thing. I have a floor-level desk, with a box next to it that holds supplies and serves as a bookshelf for my books. Above the desk is a small bulletin board, and above that is a world map. It is quite cozy.

I was walking in our backyard looking for a flower for my Japanese ikebana flower arrangement for school, and I noticed all of the beautiful flowers that are growing back there. We have all shades of pink, along with red, yellow, and white flowers...soon the back yard will be spring central!

Tonight I took my bed apart. Now that may sound weird, but that is what I do for fun. Okay, not really. My mother wants my bed for the guest room because she doesn't really like the bed that is in there now, so we will sell that one and replace it with my bed. I get a new one. But there was nothing stopping me from just having a mattress in exactly the place I want the new bed while I wait for a new one! I really was getting tired of how crowed my room looked, because since I have a day bed, it has to go completely against the wall instead of coming out, if you know what I mean. All of my furniture was forced to the other side of the room, where it looked sloppy and crowded. But never fear, for after two hours of work, including taking apart a bed, moving it to the guest room in pieces, repositioning a canopy, and cleaning and vacuuming, I have a roomy room! Hooray!

I know that those of you who come to my house sometimes can hardly bear your excitement. Have patience. You will see soon enough.

Go, Joel, Go!

This is a conversation I overheard going on between my father and Joel.

Joel: Dad, where are the car keys?

Dad: In Mom's purse. Why?

Joel: I'm gonna go drive the car.

Dad: Okay.

NC Thanksgiving

I know, I know, Thanksgiving was a long time ago. Before I even started this blog, in fact. But I want to tell you about our Thanksgiving in North Carolina at my aunt and uncle's house anyway because I have pictures to go with it!! I don't remember the exact dates everything happened, though, because the pictures saved to my computer are out of order.

One day, when the boys and girls were split up, we decided to go to the north part of the Blue Ridge after shopping to see if there was any snow. It was beautiful!

Here I am with my aunt, grandma, and mom. There was just a thin layer of snow, but it was amazing!

This was the view from where we parked.

This is my favorite picture. The tree looked so pretty!

This picture is cool, too. It is a picture of a branch up close. I love how the little ice crystals look like they are clinging to the branch.

The boys also went to the Blue Ridge and had fun playing in the snow.

On Sunday, we decided to have a picnic in the Blue Ridge. Usually the leaves have fallen by this time of year, but we were lucky. It was gorgeous!

Look at all the beautiful colors!

When my dad comes home from work, if he had a good day, he calls it a "Retire at [where he works]" day. When he has had a bad day, he says, "Take me to the Blue Ridge!" This is my dad's favorite place to be.

Here are the guys eating lunch and enjoying the view.

This is my Uncle Mike and Aunt Pam. They are renting a house in NC while my Uncle goes to school.

And here is our lovely family picture. Joel was being himself, as usual. In fact, all the guys were.

My dad...

my uncle...

And Josh, reading as usual. And we can't forget Hobbes, who enjoyed lying next to Josh while Josh was being himself. My aunt and uncle don't have a tv or computer, so we had to find other things to do. One of our favorite ways to do this was playing Scattergories. Uncle Mike and Joel really made it interesting, doing little dances everytime they got a point. One time, they had to write a vegetable that started with H, and when it was their turn to say what they put, they said, "Jalepeno! Oh, oh, yeah!!" while doing a little dance. They were quite dissapointed to learn that "jalepeno" starts with a J.

Another fun thing that I did was go horseback riding with my grandpa in the mountains of NC. It was so much fun! My horse's name was Chisel, and my grandpa rode Cowboy. I don't have pictures for it, though.

I got to help my Uncle Mike cook, which I enjoyed a lot, because my uncle makes very good food.

On Thanksgiving, we made our traditional placemats, this year using stamps. My Aunt Pam and I enjoy scrapbooking together. She is the one who got me into it.

Here is the beautifully set table. As a gift to my Aunt for letting us stay at her house, my grandma and mother bought her two new sets of dishes, since she didn't have a lot. She really liked them!

And here we are sitting at the table, extremely hungry and ready to eat. The neighbors were also over.

Afterwards, went to the neighbor's house to watch football and have dessert. Unfortunately, we were not able to play our own football game as planned because it was too cold.

And here we all are as one, big, happy family.

Forgot!

Sorry if you already voted on the poll. You will have to vote again because I forgot a very important comic strip...Calvin and Hobbes! I should be ashamed of myself, my dog is named after Hobbes and it is my family's favorite comic strip!

I am ashamed. Plese forgive me.

Say What?

I would like to share with you a hilarious "Pearls Before Swine" comic strip.

(Pig and Goat are watching TV)

Pig to Goat: Rat says this actor can't make any more movies because he's under six feet.

Goat: He's six feet under.

Pig: That's what I said.

Goat: You said 'under six feet.'

Pig: Is there a difference?

Goat: The former is dead.

Pig: How did the farmer die?

Goat: Former.

Pig: How did the former farmer die?

Goat: (getting frustrated) Forget it... all you need to know is that the latter is to short.

Pig: So he fell off?

Goat: Fell off what?!?!?!?!?!

Pig: The ladder.

Goat: NO ONE FELL OFF ANY LADDER!!!!!!

Pig: (horrified) ...He was...pushed???

Goat: AAAAAUGHH!!!!!

Pig to Officer: ...I'd like to report a suspicious goat.

Sorry, it is an old comic strip, so I couldn't find it on the internet, but I cut it out a long time ago. Isn't it great?

What are some of your favorite comic strips?

Poll Answer

The answer to the poll was C: He barked. My dog really hated that hat! All my Grandpa did was walk out wearing and Hobbes started barking his head off! That dog scares me sometimes...

Happy/Sad New Year!

Wow, a new year already! I had a fun New Year's Eve party. It was small, and two families had to leave before 12, but it was fun. The only reason the families had to leave was because they came together and one was getting sick, so I don't blame them.

On New Year's Day we went to the annual party at a friend's house, and went to the W house afterwards for dinner. That was some good food!

Unfortunately, that night, my friend's mother was in a car accident, and died. The funeral is today. Our hearts go out to you, Meredith, and always remember that she is in a better place where you will see her again someday! Even if we are mourning down here on Earth, she is dancing in Heaven!
