Booker T. Washington

On Monday we went to the Booker T. Washington National Monument. If you don’t know who he is, you can read about him here.

DSCN0099 DSCN0100 DSCN0106 This is the plantation where Booker worked as a slave.

DSCN0107 This is the kitchen, which is also where he, his mother, and the other slaves slept. There were four of them.

There were animals at the monument to show what kind of animals there were when Booker lived there. Like this giant pig.

DSCN0120 I mean, it was HUGE!

DSCN0123 DSCN0124

DSCN0125 Oink.

DSCN0141 This was the tobacco barn.

DSCN0142 In 1867 the Emancipation Proclamation was read to Booker along with other slaves on this farm. After that, Booker worked so hard to get an education. He went on to be an adviser to presidents!

Up Next: Auntietam (I would post about it tonight, but I've got a terrible cold and I have to go to bed)
