What are we celebrating?
We Christians often get angry at America for turning Christmas into a big commercial holiday. We get mad because everyone says "Happy Holidays" and "Holiday tree." It bothers us that Christ has been totally taken out of Christmas and replaced with Santa and shopping. "It's the season of giving!"
But are we really celebrating the true meaning of Christmas ourselves?
We all know what Christmas is about. We know the Christmas story. We've heard it a thousand times and probably can tell it by heart! But I know at least I don't think about it much during the weeks coming up to Christmas. I'm thinking about presents I making for people, shopping I have to do, and presents I might be getting. We think about decorating the house, making the food, and seeing friends and family. But do we think at all about the miracle that happened on Christmas night?
On Christmas morning we wake up early, anxious to open presents. In our family, we always read the Christmas story before we open the presents. But I confess that sometimes, I can barely sit through it!
You people know what I'm talking about.
Take some time this Christmas season to think about the miracle that happened that night.
Luke 2:1-20 (New International Version)
1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register.
4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Snow Day!
I’ve decided I’m not going to promise when I’m going to post things anymore. :)
Anyway, last Saturday my mom woke me up and told me “It’s snowing!” You all know how I love my sleep, so I got up, took a few pictures from INSIDE my room, and went back to bed. Hey, I thought, the snow will still be there in an hour.
When I did get up, I eagerly volunteered to take the dog outside, a chore that none of us like to do, especially since it is usually at or below freezing these days. Brr! But not today! This was the first time I had been out that day.
This is the view when you first walk out.
Quite a transformation, eh? (This isn’t actually what it looked like, all of those pretty leaves are gone now ;)
Hobbes wasn’t quite sure what to do with the snow! At first, he just ate it!
After a few minutes though, he was prancing around in it. :)
This picture is way cool.
As is this one! I love the look of the snow on the dead branches.
When we came back in, Hobbes' nosie was speckled with snow!
We went to the F house later.
This is their back porch.
Josh loves the snow more than any of us!
Uncle Mike took Mollie out in the snow. :)
Love this one!
When we got home, I went exploring.
This is my tree, the one with the tree fort in it. (I’ll have to post pics of that sometime.)
My tree fort has a great view!
This is the path up to a field, coming from my tree fort.
That’s looking back on the trail I took. See our house on the left?
And then…I found Narnia.
It was gorgeous! It might snow again next weekend. :)
