How To Put Up A Swing

...Or maybe it should be "How NOT To Put Up A Swing..."

Well, last Saturday I decided that I wanted to put our swing back up, so I tied a bunch of my dad's rope together and went outside.

I, of course, can not throw a rope over our high tree, so I sought the help of Josh and his friend, Rico.

Glenna was there for part of it, too.

Well, turns out that Rico could throw the rope up there. And he did. And it didn't come down.

Yup. We have a problem.

This was our first attempt to get it down:

Now, I just want to give you all an idea as to how far up the rope was...

Do you see it up there? You probably don't. It's pretty high up there. Obviously, our first attempt failed.

But don't worry about Josh, he's okay.

Our next idea was to stand on a chair with a stick, but the rope was too high up.

Then we tried to throw the football up there and knock the rope down.

We got that stuck up there too.

Then, to get the football down, we tried throwing a stick up there. This stick had a string attached to it.

Guess what?

Now we had the football and the stick (which was hanging by its string) stuck in our tree.

And guess what else?

The rope was still up there.

Yup. We still have a problem.

Well, then we threw a soccer ball up there, but don't worry. We didn't get that up there. We got the football down, though, but the stick was still up there.

When we finally got the stick down, we realized we were right back where we started...

...with the rope in the tree.

*sigh*

Then I had the idea of throwing the skateboard up there because the grip tape would bring the rope down...

But guess what? Skateboards are heavy.

But then, something wonderful happened!

The boys weren't very enthusiastic for the camera, so Glenna and I helped out.

And here comes Dad now, to the rescue!

Yay! Dad saved us with his magic ladder!

After we got the rope down, we resumed our quest on getting it up and over.

We tried tying the rope to the sick and throwing it over.

We tried tying the football to the rope and throwing it over.

For goodness sake, we even tied the cup to the rope and tried lassoing it!

But to no avail.

Oh, and if you are wondering what Joel did this entire time...

Yup, that about covers it.

Oh, and he did this...

As for Hobbes, well...

He just kind of sat around and watched us work. And dug his hole and sat in it.

Well, we failed. At least for now...

To be continued...

Dad didn't climb up the ladder, he held it up and hooked the string on it. The ladder wasn't tall enough for the tree.

oooohhhhh, that's how the ladder worked. I sure wondered and am rather glad my son didn't climb it just standing free form!
That was very entertaining tonight-- thanks! Better than any sitcom I've ever seen!
